I guess I really should post more than once every 9 months huh, otherwise I'm just wasting space in the blogosphere. And what easier time for a pastor to post and write than in December? It's not like you can't think of anything to talk about this time of year now is it?
I never cease to be amazed at the generosity of our church. After already buying gifts for children on Indian Reservations, and buying gifts for the kids of the Georgia Baptist Children's Homes, our people gave almost $1,000 to purchase Christmas stockings and trooper friendly stocking stuffers for the troops guarding the detained Islamic Jihadist Terrorists at Guantanamo Bay. Then many of them came up to the church at 7:00 on a Saturday night to stuff those stockings. I really hope the 120 or so troops that receive these stockings will know that a little church in Lovejoy, GA appreciates their sacrifice and service this Christmas. But there is a problem. Navy Chaplain Lt. Tim Johns tells me that he has between 1,800 and 2,000 troopers down there. That means the stockings we sent will only take care of about 7% of the troops down there. Now I'd rather do something nice for 7% than for only 0%, but I still feel bad for those 93% we didn't get to. I hope some other churches are helping out. It may be too late, but if you are interested in helping, email Lt. Johns, and I'm sure he'll be glad to tell you how you can help out.
Oh, by the way troopers, those are Baptist playing cards we put in those stockings, so stick to bridge, rummy, and go fish. They won't work for poker or black jack. If they touch the table the same time as money, chips, toothpicks or matchsticks, they will be supernaturally transformed into UNO cards, and we wouldn't want that now would we?
